You’ve probably heard singer/songwriter/composer Duncan Sheik’s hit song “Barely Breathing.” After all, at its peak, it spent a record-setting 55 consecutive weeks on the charts. But did you know that he won a Grammy (and not for “Barely Breathing) and is a multiple Grammy nominee? Or that he also won Tony awards for his work as a composer on the Broadway musical Spring Awakening? Since his late 90’s breakthrough, Sheik has kept busy alternately working on beautifully haunting, undeniably melodic albums as a singer/songwriter and a variety of theater projects as an in-demand composer. His seventh and latest album is Covers 80’s, in which– as the title makes obvious– Sheik interprets and pays tribute to the songs of his formative years in the 1980’s.
